Snap-on Tools UK, a subsidiary of Snap-on Inc, was founded in 1965 with its first branch in Kettering, Northamptonshire. A little over a decade later, Snap-on Tools had over 100 UK dealers operating from four branches and today, they has over 400 franchises operating in both the UK and Ireland providing tooling solutions to the UK Automotive aftermarket.

Background:

Overview first worked with Snap-on UK just after the turn of the millennium. Snap-on’s territories were defined by written descriptions and visualised by individual paper maps at various scales. These were then transferred manually on to master maps held at branch level and maintained from then on at this level. Having such a large network of franchisees, within in a three tier territory model, made the task of maintaining territory boundary accuracy and integrity difficult. Snap-on required this data to be maintained centrally, and in a digital form to ensure that the UK geography was being fully utilised and avoid the potential pitfalls of having gaps, or even worse overlaps. With the Internet becoming more important element of the sales revenue stream Snap-on also required a solution to allocating sales to the correct franchisees.

Solution:

Overview assisted Snap-on by digitising the entire territory network and then maintaining this centrally via an online system. This solution would also provide the building blocks for a bespoke postcode look up system to allocate sales to the correct franchisees. Over the last few years this solution has undergone radical changes as a result of Overview’s development in their web solutions offering. When territory changes occur, whether they be physical boundary ones or franchisee names / contact numbers, they are instantaneously reflected in the web service results to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
